Behind Ahukini: from idea to transformable swimsuit

When I created Ahukini, I didn't just want to design another swimsuit.

I was looking for a solution to a problem I was experiencing myself: why do you always have to choose between the beach and the city, between comfort and elegance, between freedom and coverage?

It was from this reflection that Ahukini was born: a brand of transformable swimsuits designed to accompany women throughout their day.

Every model begins in Tahiti

All Ahukini collections are conceived and designed in Tahiti.

Each model begins with several weeks of reflection, sketches, and research to find the right balance between aesthetics, comfort, and functionality.

Even before thinking about materials or manufacturing, every detail is carefully studied:

• the cut
• the support
• the proportions
• the fastening systems
• the transformation of the swimsuit into beachwear

Each creation is then subject to a detailed technical specification, which will serve as a reference throughout its development.

From idea to prototype

Once the model is designed, it is digitally modeled to verify its technical consistency.

I then work with a pattern maker to adjust the volumes, measurements, and constraints specific to the garment.

The first prototypes are then produced and tested to validate several essential elements:

• comfort
• finishes
• material drape
• ease of transformation
• fit on different body types

This step is essential. It is often at this point that the best improvements emerge.

Why it took me over a year to find the right manufacturer

Finding a manufacturing partner was one of the longest steps in the project.

For over a year and a half, I compared different manufacturers specializing in swimwear to find the best balance between:

• manufacturing quality
• technical expertise
• communication
• on-time delivery
• production cost
• support in model development

My goal was not to produce at the lowest price, but to find a partner capable of meeting Ahukini's quality requirements.

After this research phase, I chose to work with a manufacturer specializing in custom swimwear for over 10 years.

Before each launch, several samples and prototypes are made. No model goes into production until fully validated:

The prints used in the collections are developed exclusively for the brand.

Each pattern is designed to integrate into the Ahukini universe and tell a story inspired by Polynesia, travel, and freedom.
